Course Number: ENGL 2332 – WS3

 

Course Title: World Literature I Online (Summer III)

 

Course Description: This course introduces the student to a multiplicity of literary histories beginning with the classical Greek period through the seventeenth century with an emphasis on written analysis. Students will read representative selections, analyze, and discuss philosophies, societal mores, social milieus, and social concerns.

 

Course Credit Hours: 3    Lecture Hours: 3                                                                             

 

Prerequisite: ENGL 1302            

                  

State-mandated Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

 

  1. Identify key ideas, representative authors and works, significant historical or cultural events, and characteristic perspectives or attitudes expressed in the literature of different periods or regions.
  2. Analyze literary works as expressions of individual or communal values within the social, political, cultural, or religious contexts of different literary periods.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of the development of characteristic forms or styles of expression during different historical periods or in different regions.
  4. Articulate the aesthetic principles that guide the scope and variety of works in the arts and humanities.
  5. Write research-based critical papers about the assigned readings in clear and grammatically correct prose, using various critical approaches to literature.

Student Learning Outcomes:  Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

 

1.    Demonstrate familiarity with a scope and variety of works.

2.    Demonstrate knowledge of literature as expressions of individual and cultural values within social, political, historical, and religious contexts

3.    Demonstrate critical thinking skills in oral and written discussion and argumentative analysis

4.    Demonstrate correct MLA documentation conventions

5.    Relate literature to personal experiences

Last Day to Withdraw: July 10th. To receive a W in the course, the student must formally withdraw in the RegistrarŐs Office.  Students who do not withdraw will receive a performance grade.

All course content/materials are available in Blackboard; all course work will be submitted through Turnitin.com 

Graded assignments will be uploaded, and grades posted, in Turnitin.com.

Out of 1000 points:

 

á       6 unit writing assignments worth 100 points each=600 points

á       Final Exam=200 points

á       8 Discussion Board Postings (in Turnitin.com)=200 points (refer to Assignments Schedule, linked from Blackboard, for info. about discussion board posts).

 

1000-900 points=A

899-800 points=B

799-700=C

699-600=D

599 and below=F

 

All assignments will be graded within a week (or less) of submission
